Tarryn Kesten
Year 3
Miss Tarryn is a South African educator who has obtained her Bachelor of Arts Degree with a major in Psychology and sub-majors Anthropology and German Language and Literature from The University of the Witwatersrand. She has also obtained a 140-hour intensive Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) qualification from the Knysna English School in South Africa and is currently doing her Master’s in Education through The University of Dundee, Scotland.
Some of her earlier teaching experience in South Africa ranges from tutoring foundation phase Mathematics, English and Afrikaans to students aged seven through fifteen and teaching Nursery school students ages two through five. For the past five years she has now been living and working as an educator in Nanjing, China teaching grade one (age six and seven) and grade three (age nine and ten) students. She has worked with the Longman, Pearson and California Treasures Macmillan / McGraw-Hill curriculum ensuring lesson integration and diversity. Some of these have included ecology and recycling, ecosystems and pollution, history, and National Geographic resources to not only spark student interest but simultaneously enhance student comprehension as well. Throughout the years she has employed the skill of not only being able to teach but having the ability to be taught as well. For her seeing children blossom and grow is so gratifying and fulfilling and she cannot wait to join the BIS team and continue this amazing journey!
