Exploring Farm Fun: A Journey into Animal-Themed Learning in Pre-Nursery

For the past two weeks, we have had a blast studying about farm animals in pre-nursery. Children were thrilled to investigate our pretend farm, where they were able to take care of chicks and rabbits, build an incredible farm using sensory play trays, read a range of themed books, and act out stories.  In our focused learning time, we also had a great time practicing animal yoga, playing interactive touch screen games, and creating fluffy paint using glue, shaving cream, and color. Our visit to the petting zoo, where the kids were able to wash lizards, prepare animal salad, touch and feel the fur and skin of the animals, as well as have an enjoyable time, was the highlight of the topic.

Year 3 Students Embark on an Exciting Journey into the World of Science

We are thrilled to share our young learners' remarkable progress and achievements as they immerse themselves in the captivating realm of science. With dedication, patience and guidance, the Year 3 students have delved into the fascinating world of the human body.

The Year 3 teacher has meticulously crafted tailored and differentiated lessons to ensure engagement and fun for all 19 students in preparation for the upcoming Cambridge Science Assessment. These lessons, which were conducted in three rotating groups in the science lab, have sparked the curiosity and determination of our young scholars.

Their recent studies have focused on the human body's intricate systems, specifically the skeleton, organs, and muscles. Through peer-reviewed reflection, we proudly announce that our Year 3 students have confidently grasped the fundamentals of these vital components of human anatomy.

The skeletal system, a foundational aspect of their studies, comprises over 200 bones, cartilage, and ligaments. It is a crucial support structure, shaping the body, enabling movement, producing blood cells, protecting organs, and storing essential minerals. Our students have gained a profound understanding of how this framework supports the entire body and facilitates movement.

Equally important is their comprehension of the connection between muscles and bones. Learning how muscles contract when signalled by the nervous system has empowered our students to understand the dynamic interplay that leads to movement at the joints.

In their exploration of internal organs, our Year 3 students have deepened their understanding of each organ's specific function in maintaining a healthy and vibrant life. Besides supporting the body, the skeletal system plays a pivotal role in protecting organs from injury and housing vital bone marrow.

We extend our gratitude to the parents for your continued support in continuous learning at home as we strive to empower our students with knowledge about their incredible bodies. Together, we celebrate the determination and curiosity that drive our Year 3 students to learn more daily.

Literary Exploration: Journeying from Poetry to Prose Fiction in Education

This month in English Literature, students have begun the transition from studying poetry to studying prose fiction. Years Seven and Eight have been getting reacquainted with the basics of prose fiction by reading short stories. Year Seven has read the classic story “Thank You Ma’am,”  -  a story about forgiveness and understanding -  by Langston Hughes.  Year Eight currently are reading  a story called  “The Treasure of Lemon Brown,” by Walter Dean Myers. This is a story that teaches the valuable lesson that some of the best things in life are free. Year Nine are currently reading “The Open Boat,” by Stphen Crane. In this adventure tale, four men must pool together their resources and work together to survive a shipwreck. Finally, to prepare for Christmas break, all grades will be treated  to the timeless holiday classic “A Christmas Carol,” by Charles Dickens.  That’s all for now. Have a fabulous holiday season everyone!

Cultivating Oratory Skills: Inspiring Confidence in Chinese Language Education

Communication is the essence of language teaching, and the goal of learning Chinese is to use it to strengthen cognition and interaction between people, while also making students more confident and bold. Everyone has the opportunity to become a little orator.

In the past IGCSE oral training sessions, getting students to speak Chinese publicly was not an easy task. Students vary in their Chinese language proficiency and personality. Therefore, in our teaching, we pay special attention to those who are afraid to speak and lack confidence.

Our senior students have formed an oral speaking team. They collaborate to prepare speeches, often discuss topics together, and share famous quotes and aphorisms they've found, enhancing the learning atmosphere and bringing students closer. "To foster a hero's ambition, one must understand both victory and defeat." In the oral competitions across various classes, each group vies to outdo the others in a battle of wits, competing for the title of "Strongest Speaker". Faced with the students' enthusiasm, the teachers' smiles and encouragement not only bring success and joy to the students in their oral training but also boost their confidence, igniting their desire to speak out loud.
