This week at BIS, our learners have been busy exploring the world in wonderfully different ways—digging into the world of mini beasts, building strong foundations in mathematics and reading, and expressing themselves through music, creativity, and performance.
New Nursery Unit: Mini Beasts
written by Mr. Alex, April 2026
Our Nursery mini heroes have officially landed in the world of Mini Beasts—and the excitement is buzzing!
Over the past two weeks, your little learners have transformed into brave bug detectives. From hunting for wiggly worms in the sensory tray to building cozy leaf hotels for our visiting ladybugs, their curiosity has been incredible to watch. We’ve seen shy fingers reach out to touch a fuzzy pom-pom caterpillar and heard happy squeals when spotting a “sparkly” snail trail on the playground.
The classroom is now a busy minibeast village, complete with spider web yarn art and butterfly wing painting. Best of all? Friends are helping friends find “lost” beetles and sharing magnifying glasses like true scientists.
We couldn’t be prouder of how confidently they’ve adapted to our new topic—digging, discovering, and smiling every step of the way.
Keep the adventure going at home: next time you see an ant, ask your child what they’ve learned!
Year 1 Tigers: Learning & Exploring
written by Ms. Bear, April 2026
In the warm and nurturing environment of BIS, our busy Year 1 Tigers are as active as ever. In Mathematics, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. In this lesson, the children also began constructing their own 3D models, helping them develop a deeper understanding of the difference between “flat” and “solid” shapes. This hands-on experience supports the development of spatial awareness, strengthening their ability to mentally rotate and combine shapes—an essential foundation for future learning in geometry.
Books are like windows to other worlds—each page we turn introduces us to new characters, cultures, and ideas. Every year on April 23, UNESCO celebrates World Book and Copyright Day, highlighting the power of books as a bridge across generations and cultures. In Year 1 Chinese lessons, our Tigers have also begun their reading journey, showing great curiosity and a strong desire to learn.
Learning, Playing, and Growing: A Music Class Experience
written by Mr. Dika, April 2026
Recent music classes included a series of meaningful and enjoyable activities, which helped students develop musical skills and personal confidence. In the music class, students were introduced to the basic structure of the ukulele, simple chord shapes, and correct methods of holding and strumming the instrument. Initially, students faced difficulties in pressing chords smoothly and maintaining a steady rhythm, but with repeated practice and guidance, they gradually mastered simple melodies.
The music class also helped students build confidence in playing musical instruments. Many students felt nervous at first, fearing mistakes in front of their classmates. Through group practice sessions and mutual encouragement, students became less shy. They gradually dared to play in front of the class and no longer worried about small errors, gaining a sense of pride and increased confidence.
Additionally, students practiced singing songs while playing the ukulele. They matched simple, lively songs with their strumming rhythm, learning to coordinate hand movements with singing. This activity allowed students to experience the beauty of combining instrumental music and vocals, making the music class more lively and engaging.
Adding to that, students practiced singing songs while playing the ukulele. They matched simple, lively songs with their strumming rhythm, learning to coordinate hand movements with singing. This activity allowed students to experience the beauty of combining instrumental music and vocals, making the music class more lively and engaging.
Overall, the music class provided valuable learning experiences for students. They acquired basic ukulele skills, built confidence, and enjoyed the process of singing and playing music together. It laid a good foundation for students to continue developing their musical abilities in future lessons.
