In this newsletter, we are excited to share highlights from across BIS. Reception students showcased their discoveries in the Celebration of Learning, Year 3 Tigers completed an engaging project week, our Secondary AEP students enjoyed a dynamic co-teaching maths lesson, and Primary and EYFS classes continued developing skills, confidence, and fun in PE. It has been another week full of curiosity, collaboration, and growth throughout the school.
Reception Lions | Exploring the World Around Us: A Journey of Discovery and Growth
Written by Ms. Shan, October 2025
We have experienced an incredibly successful two months with our first theme of the year, “The World Around Us,” which explores various aspects of our environment. This encompasses, but is not limited to, topics such as animals, recycling, environmental care, birds, plants, growth, and much more.
Some of the highlights from this theme include:
- Going on a bear hunt: Utilizing the story and song as references, we engaged in various activities like an obstacle course, map marking, and silhouette art.
- The Gruffalo: This story taught us lessons about cunningness and bravery. We sculpted our own Gruffalos from clay, using images from the story to guide us.
- Bird watching: We created nests for the birds we made and crafted binoculars from recycled materials, sparking our creativity.
- Making our own paper: We recycled paper, combined it with water, and used frames to create new sheets, which we then decorated with flowers and various materials. These engaging activities have not only enriched our understanding of the natural world but also fostered teamwork, creativity, and problem-solving skills among the children. We have seen remarkable enthusiasm and curiosity from our young learners as they immerse themselves in these hands-on experiences.
Celebration of Learning Exhibition
On October 10th, we hosted our inaugural “Celebration of Learning” exhibition, where the children showcased their work to their parents.
- The event kicked off with a brief presentation by the teachers, followed by an engaging performance by the kids.
- Afterward, the children took center stage to display and discuss their own projects with their parents.
The aim of this event was not only to allow the kids to take pride in their accomplishments but also to highlight their learning journey throughout the theme.
What’s Next?
Looking ahead, we are excited to introduce our next theme, “Animal Rescuers,” focusing on animals based in the jungle, safari, Antarctic, and desert environments. This theme promises to be just as dynamic and insightful. We will delve into the lives of animals in these diverse habitats, exploring their behaviors, adaptations, and the challenges they face.
Children will have the opportunity to engage in creative projects such as building model habitats, participating in wildlife conservation activities, and learning about the importance of preserving these unique ecosystems. Through these experiences, we aim to inspire a deeper appreciation and understanding of the world’s incredible biodiversity.
- We are thrilled to continue our journey of discovery and growth, and we look forward to sharing more adventures with our little explorers.
Project Week in Year 3 Tigers
Written by Mr. Kyle, October 2025
This week, in Year 3 Tigers we were lucky to complete both our science and English units in the same week! This meant we could create a project week.
In English, they completed their interview project, which was a cross curricular project combining questioning a different year group, data presentation and a presentation at the end for their families.
In Science, we completed the unit ‘plants are living things’ and this involved creating their own model plant using plasticine, cups, scrap paper and chopsticks.
They consolidated their knowledge on the parts of a plant. An example of this is ‘The stem holds up the plants and water moves inside the stem’ and practiced their presentations. Some of the children were nervous, but they were so supportive of each other, working together to understand how a plant functions!
They then rehearsed their presentations and presented them on video for the families to see.
All in all, I was so happy to see the progress this class has made so far!
AEP Mathematics Co-Teaching Lesson: Exploring Percentage Increase and Decrease
Written by Ms. Zoe, October 2025
Today’s Mathematics lesson was a dynamic co-teaching session focused on the topic of Percentage Increase and Decrease. Our students had the opportunity to strengthen their understanding through an engaging, hands-on activity that combined movement, collaboration, and problem-solving.
Instead of staying at their desks, students moved around the classroom to find different percentage problems posted in each corner. Working in pairs or small groups, they calculated the solutions, discussed their reasoning, and compared answers with classmates. This interactive approach helped students apply mathematical concepts in a fun and meaningful way while reinforcing key skills such as logical thinking and communication.
The co-teaching format allowed both teachers to support students more closely—one guiding the problem-solving process, and the other checking understanding and providing immediate feedback. The lively atmosphere and teamwork made the lesson both educational and enjoyable.
Our students showed great enthusiasm and collaboration throughout the activity. By learning through movement and interaction, they not only deepened their grasp of percentages but also developed confidence in applying math to real-life situations.
Primary & EYFS PE: Building Skills, Confidence, and Fun
Written by Ms. Vicky, October 2025
This term, Primary students have continued to develop their physical skills and confidence through a variety of structured and play-based activities. Earlier in the year, lessons concentrated on locomotor and coordination skills—running, hopping, skipping, and balancing—while building teamwork through basketball-based games.
Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) classes have followed the International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC), using play-led themes to develop foundational physical literacy. Through obstacle courses, movement-to-music, balancing challenges and partner games, the little ones have been improving body awareness, gross- and fine-motor control, spatial awareness, and social skills such as turn-taking and effective communication.
This month, Primary classes have begun our Track and Field unit with a particular emphasis on starting position, body posture, and sprint technique. These skills will be showcased at our upcoming Sports Day, where sprint races will be a featured event.
Across all year groups, PE lessons continue to promote physical fitness, cooperation, resilience and a lifelong enjoyment of movement.
Everyone is doing a great job.
