Each week, teachers from different sections of BIS share what has been happening in their classrooms and across the school. From creative projects and hands-on learning to new discoveries and meaningful experiences, this is a glimpse into the many ways our students learn, explore and grow.

Settling Into School
This week, we excitedly began our first IEYC theme, “This Is Me!” To spark the children’s curiosity and excitement, we held a very special class catwalk! Dressed in their favourite outfits and fanciest costumes, the children took turns walking down our red carpet, both independently and alongside their friends. They then had the opportunity to introduce themselves to the class using a microphone.
Some children were a little shy at first, while others were already confident performers! With a little encouragement and practice, everyone enjoyed their moment in the spotlight and proudly showed off their outfits.
Celebrating What Makes Us Unique
Our catwalk was a wonderful way to begin exploring individuality and celebrating the things that make each of us unique. Over the coming weeks, we will learn more about ourselves, our families and our friends, while exploring our likes and dislikes, feelings, similarities and differences. Through stories, discussions and play, the children will develop a greater understanding of their own identity while learning to appreciate and celebrate the individuality of those around them.
A Wonderful Start for Our Year 1 Lions
Written by Ms. Zanie , September 2026
Our new Year 1 Lions have spent their first month getting to know one another and their teachers. We have been reviewing and practising important classroom routines, including moving safely around the school. The children have also been adjusting to sharing the outdoor play areas with the rest of the Primary students during break times.
In the classroom, we have been developing our phonics skills and introducing high-frequency words, which will support the children’s reading and writing throughout the year. In Maths, we have been reviewing numbers and exploring estimation. The children have particularly enjoyed estimating quantities and predicting how long it will take them to complete everyday tasks, such as writing their names or lining up.
We are proud of how well our Year 1 Lions are settling in and look forward to a happy, productive and successful year together!
